OUR MISSION IS TO ENABLE, INSPIRE, AND STRATEGICALLY SUPPORT GIRLS AND WOMEN TO ACHIEVE THEIR FULL POTENTIAL.

EMPOWERING GUINEA-BISSAU WOMEN

In the NSEF's section Woman House, our mission is to enable, inspire, and strategically support Bissau Guinean girls (aged 16 or above) and women to achieve their full potential.

Gender and development

Currently Bissau Guinean society suffers from gender inequality, and needs initiatives such as Woman House to create incremental, lasting change in communities around the gender issue. According to the UN gender inequality index in 2014, the country was ranked 178th out of 188 countries. Only around 41% of women are able to read and write in a basic form when compared to nearly 70% of men. Also there are real cultural barriers standing in the way of Bissau Guinean women in their journey towards senior positions, and consequently the percentage of women in senior positions in the country is low.

Therefore NSEF is the opportunity to combine our programs, using specific skill-set to address pressing Bissau Guinean women needs. Our programs will up skill and aiding women to formulate and develop their projects and income-generating activities. At NSEF, we aim to advocate women's rights to education and we empower those who are striving for improvement in their lives to become successful business owners and leaders in whatever role they take on in their professional lives.

What do we do about the female empowerment?

We organise courses, training and workshops for networking and discussions to help Bissau female empowerment in Guinea-Bissau. Therefore our ambitious and innovative Woman House project in Guinea-Bissau aims the following:

  • continuous education and skills development training for Bissau Guinean women;
  • funding and supporting more girls into education in Guinea-Bissau;
  • develop NSEF's leadership programme for Bissau Guinean women;
  • provide a network of information and assistance with effective lobbying and representation in order to help promoting women's rights in Guinea-Bissau;
  • enable 1000 women to become literate during every five years of our strategic planning period;
  • help 250 women to develop their own enterprise during this five year period;
  • use NSEF's resource and expertise to support female business growth;
  • develop focus programmes for women in the different communities of Guinea-Bissau.
