The primary decision-making bodies

The Leadership's members derived from both academic and industrial backgrounds. Each member has his own area of expertise to help the NSEF project to succeed in both the organisation's day-to-day and long-term life. The main objectives of the Administrative Committee are to increase the quality of our services, to make NSEF accessible to more people and to defend its social interest and its missions are to adopt the strategies from the Strategy and Impact Committee, monitor the Director and Operating Managers works on implementation of those strategies and protect NSEF's assets. We give a real voice to our members by giving elected members a number of seats of the decision making Boards.

About the Committee

The Non-Executive Chairman and Honorary Chairman of the Administrative Committee are João Adriano Conduto and Jose Lingna Nafafe, having been both appointed by the NSEF Founder, Helder da Silva. Janette da Silva, Elisabete Furtado and Natalia Satunova accompany them in these roles.

The Strategy and Impact Committee, Chaired by Brigita Jurisic, and the Executive Director define strategic objectives mainly on the basis of the orientations decided by the Annual General Assembly and by the Administrative Committee and coordinate their implementation and adaptation to changes affecting the implementation of the NSEF’s Programs.

The Board members are involved as contributors and advisers in order to help us improve what we do and to boost the impact we have in our mission of improving education and community life, with special attention to the Guinea-Bissau community worldwide.

Helder da Silva

Dr Helder da Silva was first introduced to the Electronic and Electrical Engineering by the Colégio Gustave Eiffel in Lisbon, Portugal (1996). As our Director and Chief Technical Officer, he is responsible for the overall control and implementation of the strategic direction of the project. He reports to both Administrative Committee and the Strategy and Impact Committee, also to our funders and partners.

He developed his research work for an MPhil and PhD on design for a manufacturer of permanent magnet synchronous servomotors. This research was sponsored by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) in the UK.

At present apart from developing the NSEF project, he is developing work on motor design, thermal analysis and manufacturing processes. Helder's main interest is in the development of engineering and environmental education, and research and development work on the farming industry, renewable energy and power electronics integrated into the electric motor systems.
