Guinea-Bissau Community in London

Engaging, affordable and compelling community initiatives

Guinea-Bissau Community in London

Engaging, affordable and compelling community initiatives

Contributing towards a fairer London

People in Guinea-Bissau suffer disproportionate levels of poverty, lack of education and inequalities. Around 50% of the population live in extreme poverty and 78% of the population fails to complete secondary school (studies in 2015). Those who have managed to move and live in London continue to suffer higher levels of poverty, lack education and inequality.

The Association of Guinea-Bissau and Lusophone (AGBL) Countries is a Program of NSEF which mainly focuses on the Guinea-Bissau community in London.

Its purpose is to facilitate local initiatives in the community to network and improve all aspects of an individual's day-to-day life with an emphasis on the promotion of education, culture, female empowerment and sports, as well as general activities of living and working in the UK.

The people who will take part in our AGBL countries program are disadvantaged in many ways and our community projects aim to contribute towards making their lives better and places they live in safe neighbourhoods where people can live in harmony.

The activities will make a positive difference as we will use social activities such as intro-courses, workshops, presentations, community awards ceremonies, discussions and sports tournaments to help address many of the problems faced by the Guinea-Bissau community mainly in North and East London.

Touching lives of many and making a difference

Food production and agribusiness

Rural communities in Guinea-Bissau are the lowest-income areas of the country. There are not many services to employ local people and therefore the majority of them are farmers.

Adults have limited opportunities to improve their skills and more than 80% of children fail to complete higher education, because of poverty.

NSEF Educational Farm Park aims for growing food productivity, therefore it offers an educational farm with a wide range of training and educational opportunities, including school visits and disables programs.

The Farm Park also to make agricultural data, business prospects, advice and support available to help boost community food production.

Lack of food and nutrition play a critical role in the quality of life of families living in the countryside in Guinea-Bissau.

NSEF is focused on developing a farm park to support the community in quality food production and promoting youth and women in rural areas into education, leadership training, agribusiness, and access to finance, tools and improved seeds and fertiliser.

Research and Development – Supporting Social Causes

We here to support farming and good causes with their technology needs

NSEF Technology Aid (TA)'s mission is to help the farming industry and good causes use engineering technology to achieve better results for the Bissau Guinean community for less money.

This means TA partnering with public and private institutions, NGOs, charities and non-profit organisations to help access services they need to fulfil their potential.

TA works to improve farming and the current construction of houses in Guinea-Bissau and how to apply renewable systems to their appliances, and NSEF's work in this area will reduce deforestation which is a direct consequence of the demand for wood used for cooking and heating from the local people.
