NSEF to help unlock potentials
Although the Human Development Index (HDI) is disproportionally worse in the countryside and among women, the country HDI does not reflect the real city-countryside inequalities in terms of opportunities, poverty and structural difference.
For our strategic plan period 2017-2021, we aim at developing new self sufficient educational infrastructures and social programmes to support farming, agribusiness, education, entrepreneurship, deprived countryside communities and therefore improving people’s skills, health and well-being, and helping individuals to lift themselves out of extreme poverty.
Rural communities in Guinea-Bissau are the lowest-income areas of the country. There are not many services to employ people and therefore the majority of them are farmers. Adults have limited opportunities to improve their skills and more than 80% of children fail to complete higher education, because of poverty. NSEF is committed to ensuring that all students in the communities where it operates have the opportunity to receive a high-quality education with quality infrastructures, tools and programmes.
Lack of food and nutrition play a critical role in the quality of life of families living in the countryside. NSEF is focus on developing an educational farm park to support the community in quality food production and promoting women in rural areas into leadership training, agribusiness, and access to finance, tools and improved seeds and fertiliser.
Equipped facilities are required for NSEF's research on renewable energy systems with solar panels and turbine system generators which are key components of work in the UK and Guinea-Bissau. NSEF works to improve the current construction of houses in the countryside and how to apply renewable energy systems to their appliances and NSEF's work in this area will reduce deforestation which is a direct consequence of demand for wood used for cooking and heating in Guinea-Bissau.
NSEF will be developing infrastructures for community pharmacies to advise and offer a wide range of high quality health services for the benefit of low-income families and of deprived rural communities who cannot easily access other kinds of health service.
Social & Environmental
NSEF will be developing infrastructures to support initiatives involved with social and environmental causes in Guinea-Bissau.
